These luxury lodges are equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay after a day of trekking. This part of the trail is a bit steep, so trekkers find it challenging. Spend two nights here and hike to the Hotel Everest View for acclimatization.

The trail then takes you to the Tengboche village (3,860 m/12,660 ft), where you will explore the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region. Tengboche ahead, you will hike through the final stretch of rhododendron forests. Visit the Pangboche monastery on the way and walk past terraced fields to Dingboche (4,410 m/14,470 ft).

Spend one more acclimatization day here and further ascend above the treeline. The trail crosses a glacier field and continues along the Khumbu glacier moraine to Lobuche village (4,940 m/16,210 ft). Follow the steep, rocky uphill route and hike to Gorak Shep (5,164 m/16,942 ft). From here, you will hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m/17,598 ft) and Kala Patthar (5,545 m/18,192 ft).

How difficult is trekking to the Everest Base Camp? What are the risks of altitude sickness?

The Everest Base Camp terrain is not challenging. However, high altitude makes you out of breath. If you have decent fitness, you can complete this trek. The elevation rises every day, and the trail ascends and descends throughout the way.

You may lose stamina because of tiredness and less oxygen, so we advise you to drink adequate water, have enough food, and always keep your body warm to avoid altitude sickness.

Sometimes, your body may feel uneasy or unfit because of the long walk at high altitude. At the same time, you may not sleep well because of less oxygen and tiredness. Always make sure to eat well, sleep well, not rush at all, and read your physical health every day.

Once you get well acclimatized, then walking over 2,500 meters (8,202ft) is great fun. The weather can change at any time in the mountains in unusual ways, so be well-packed. Likewise, the food menu is extensive on the EBC route, so you have fantastic options to choose from and keep yourself energized.
